A site license is counted per WordPress site URL that activates the key. This guide covers moving from staging to live, language URLs, and WordPress multisite.

How sites are counted

PDF Invoices (and other licensed Yoohoo products) sell 1 Site, 5 Site, and Unlimited licenses. Each activation uses one seat on that license.

The plugin still runs on a site that is not activated. The key is for automatic updates and priority support.

Development, then live

You do not need two 1 Site licenses to test first and then go live. Activate on the development site, then deactivate there and activate on production.

  1. On the development site, open the plugin License tab and remove / deactivate the key.
  2. On the live site, paste the same key and save.
  3. Confirm the license screen shows active.

Staging and live at the same time

If staging and production are two different site URLs, and both have the key activated, that is two seats. A 1 Site license is not enough for both. Use a 5 Site or Unlimited license, or keep the key active only on production.

If you are unsure whether a clone or staging URL is using a seat, send support both URLs and the purchase email. Do not share the key in a public forum.

Language URLs

Paths on the same WordPress site, such as /en/, /de/, and /fr/, count as one site. Separate installs on separate domains or subdomains count separately.

WordPress multisite

Each site in the network that activates the license uses a seat. Network-wide use on many sites usually needs a 5 Site or Unlimited license.

On some multisite setups the PDF Invoices license screen is only available to a Super Admin. If a Super Admin sees “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page,” open a support ticket — that is a product issue, not a missing purchase.

Common mistakes

Leaving the key active on the old URL

After cutover, the development or old domain still holds the only seat on a 1 Site license. The live site then looks expired or unregistered.

Fix: Deactivate on the old URL first, then activate on the live URL.

Buying Unlimited only because you have a staging copy

Staging plus live is two sites. A 5 Site license is enough for that, and for a few extra environments.

Fix: Match the plan to how many URLs will stay activated at once.
